Profile

Areas of responsibility within Forfusion

As the Head of Software Development, I am responsible for the development and evolution of systems that ensure the smooth, efficient and secure day-to-day operation of the business whilst keeping the operating cost to its minimum. My overriding objective has always been an all-inclusive, end-to-end integration of technologies across all organisation functions that guarantee process adhesion and reliance on systems rather than people. Alongside helping businesses attain the highest profitability, I also deliver the MI that empowers management and our valued customers to make educated decisions, every time.

Industry experience

Over the last 15 years, I have worked in all things tech, in several industry verticals, including IT, Retail and Hospitality. I have been fortunate enough to have gained experience in businesses ranging from a small tech start-up to medium and large enterprises and to have discovered the sheer variety of the technological challenges faced by businesses of different scales and industry sectors. For the most part, my inputs had not resulted in building the groundbreaking solutions that I had hoped for, but they all led me to expand my knowledge of what doesn’t work. On a few occasions, however, I did manage to build solutions that delivered beyond expectations, thanks to not repeating the uncountable mistakes from the past. It is for this very reason; I always hold dear every single failure of mine and every small learning that I have had over the years.

Background

I had a huge push and influence from my late father, an engine design engineer, during my youth which led me to pursue engineering after finishing school. However, instead of automobile engineering (sorry, Dad!), I decided to get a degree in Computer System Architecture as computers were the only thing I could beat him in. Like most of us, the job I landed straight out of university was in a very different field altogether, all to do with software overlay on enterprise networking. However, it was a fun experience, and I felt the need to enhance my learning in computer networks and cloud implementation. So I took a career break to get my post-grad in Computer Network Technology, and got myself placed in, drumroll… Enterprise Software (wicked ways the universe works, funny!). Thankfully though, I’ve been able to have a steady progression in this space ever since, one that I thoroughly enjoy and feel very passionate about.

Favourite quote

“We choose to go to the Moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard, because that goal will serve to organise and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one which we intend to win, and the others, too.”

- John Fitzgerald Kennedy

Other interests

I think I am one of those oddballs who struggle to keep work and personal lives separate. My work brings me great joy, and I find myself the happiest when I have a technical problem in front of me to solve. So, on any random Sunday morning, if I am not changing my little one’s nappy, you will find me writing a python library that fingers-crossed will one day automate changing nappies. You get the idea.
