Forfusion Trainees More Qualified Than Junior Engineers

Forfusion has doubled its workforce

A recent report by The Prince’s Trust (covered in The Journal) claimed that there is a ‘skills shortage’ among young people in the North East that threatens to ‘derail’ the region’s accelerating economic recovery.

Moreover, leading think tank, the Policy Exchange, published a report two weeks ago which argued there was a ‘brain drain’ in the North East’s tech sector (see our CEO, Steven Forrest’s response to the report on CRN).

Obviously we can’t speak on behalf of the whole North East, but developments here at Forfusion over the last year completely refute both reports.

Forfusion has doubled its workforce and revenues, attracting some of the brightest minds from all over the UK, from Glasgow to London – even Africa!

However, the most promising talent comes from our two trainees. I’m constantly amazed by the skills and sheer ambition of our trainees. They have demonstrated commitment to their careers and the company, gaining specialist qualifications that most engineers, let alone trainees in similar organisations to Forfusion simply don’t have.

Alex Stoneman started doing work experience for Forfusion back in 2012, coinciding with his A-Levels. After deciding not to go to university and start his career ASAP, we were delighted to offer him full-time employment in 2013.

Since joining permanently in 2013 as a trainee, Alex has obtained CCNA Routing and Switching and Cisco Smart Care Base + Voice qualifications. At just 19 years of age, this is an incredible achievement.

Laurence Price faced a similar predicament. After achieving outstanding academic results, he had offers from several prestigious universities. However, after completing a week’s work experience with Forfusion during the Easter holidays, Laurence just couldn’t resist the allure of Forfusion!

We snapped him up straight away, and since joining in June 2014, Laurence has completed his CCNA Routing and Switching and is planning to undertake his CCNP Routing and Switching in the coming months. Laurence already had a Cisco IT Essentials: PC Hardware and Software under his belt from his time HND in Computer Networking.

Both Alex and Laurence have added significant value to Forfusion. Their values, work ethic and passion resonate with Forfusion’s. They’ve exceeded our expectations and we’ll continue to invest in them, as well as keep an eye out for more young and promising talent!
