Forfusion recognised with prestigious Armed Forces Covenant award

Forfusion’s continued dedication to the armed forces has been recognised with the prestigious Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) Silver Award.

Part of The Armed Forces Covenant, the ERS scheme aims to reward employer organisations for their support and dedication towards defence, including putting initiatives in place to provide training and employment to veterans and ex-forces personnel as they begin the transition to civilian life.

Forfusion’s Chief Technology Officer Ian Musgrave and Project Office Manager Steve Long, who both previously served in the forces themselves, were present to pick up the award at The Armed Forces Covenant dinner at Ramside Hall last week.

The award was presented by Major General Mitch Mitchell MBE – Director, Development Concepts and Doctrine Centre, Ministry of Defence.

Commenting on the 2019 Employer Recognition Scheme Silver Awards, Defence Secretary Ben Wallace said: ‘The awards recognise the outstanding support for our armed forces from employers across Britain and I would like to congratulate them all.’

“We’re working closely with businesses to help them further understand the huge value that veterans, reservists and military spouses can bring to their organisations.”

Forfusion has a close history with the Armed Forces. In addition to around a quarter of our current workforce being made up of ex-forces across engineering, consultancy and project management positions, we also offer a Civilian Work Attachment (CWA) Scheme.

Acquiring the relevant industry experience on their CV can be one of the most significant challenges faced by service leavers. The CWA scheme offers a structured training package to ensure they gain the appropriate skills, as well as advice and guidance on CV’s and future career aspirations.

Steve Long, Project Office Manager at Forfusion, said: “Leaving the forces after 24 years was a daunting experience for me.”

Writing CV’s and going to interviews was a totally alien experience, but after a chat with CEO Steven Forrest, himself an ex Royal Engineer, I knew Forfusion was the right place for me after all the interviews and offers I’d had. Steve and the other staff made me feel at home and helped me settle in very quickly, understanding my background knowing that it would be a challenge for me.
